Maintenance Instructions For Stainless Steel 304

Our line is manufactured with 304 Grade stainless, which is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel.

304 Stainless Steel is corrosion resistance and excels in a wide range of climates. Its surface may change if exposed to salt water, rain, grease, oil, paint, fingerprints, glue residues and dirt. Most of which can be removed by applying a cleaning solution with mild liquid soap in warm water with a soft cloth. Always wipe the surface going with the grain of the metal, and be sure to dry the product in the same motion (with the grain) to remove any excess soap residue.

*Note: For large stain/scratches or if any rust appears a No Scratch Multi-Purpose Scrub or Sponge can be used to polish the stainless steel. * Always rub with the grain of the metal.

Maintenance Instructions For Teak

Teak requires limited maintenance and will naturally weather to a silver-grey patina color over time when exposed to the natural elements. To maintain the honey tone a teak wood sealer has to be applied to the product, recommended applying twice a year but may vary on the type of sealer (Please follow manufacture instructions) If your product has already weathered and you wish to restore the honey tone, a teak wood cleaner should be applied first then apply a teak sealer.

If a stain appears or you wish to clean your furniture a cleaning solution with mild liquid soap and warm water can be used with a soft bristle brush, make sure to rinse.

If mildew occurs a teak cleaner has to be used or add a small amount of bleach to the cleaning solution and apply to mildew area with a bristle brush and rinse. Be sure to wear gloves.

*Note: Make sure all manufactured product such as sealers and cleaners are for teak product use. Always test the product on a non-visible area first before applying to the rest of the surface.

Maintenance Instructions For Woven Furniture

Our outdoor weave is manufactured from the highest quality man-made fiber, which is smooth to the touch yet remarkably durable. The polyethylene based extruded and through-dyed wicker is tear resistance, UV resistance and insensitive to the difference in temperature there for weatherproof. Woven furniture can be left outside all year round and is able to withstand temperatures from -30 degrees Celsius to +40 degrees Celsius. When cold the weave will become stiffer than normal and when very hot it will become more elastic, however, it will always revert to its normal elasticity once the ambient temperature stabilizes.

For cleaning woven furniture it is important to use a non-foaming cleaner, as a foaming product will leave a residue behind. Make sure to always rinse thoroughly to reduce the risk of leaving behind any residue that can attract dirt. A pressure washer on a LOW setting can be used without any cleaner to remove dust buildup and dirt as well.

*Note: Scratch marks or abrasions to the edge of a fiber can be repaired by very briefly and carefully applying heat (i.e. the flame of a lighter) to the affected area and rubbing along the length of the fiber with a piece of hard cardboard to restore the smooth edge. * Recommend to try on a non-visible part first.

Maintenance For Natural Stone & Granite

Granite is a natural material with naturally occurring variations in color, tone, granularity, pattern, etc. These variations are expected and are the source of natural beauty. All of Mountain House's granite arrives with a polished honed finish. Granite, which is crystalline in structure, always has tiny pits or spaces between the various mineral crystals. Granite sometimes has natural fissures as well, which may look like cracks, but are actually seams of color. These are not structural defects and are a naturally occurring result of the immense heat and pressure which formed the granite eons ago. Their characteristics are part of the natural beauty of stone and will not impair the function durability of the material.

Contrary to popular belief, granite is slightly porous which means that it can absorb small quantities of liquids and oils. Because of this we recommend the use of coasters and mats when placing anything on the tabletop. This particularly applies to cold items which might have condensation on them. Any spillages should be mopped up immediately. Should this not be possible for any reason you may notice a darker patch on the table appear. If leftover time (particularly in hot direct sunlight) this will dry out and the table will return to normal. We would recommend scrubbing the area with a sponge and non-acidic detergent to try to draw any color from the spillage. Citric-based detergents should not be used.

To maintain the color of the granite over time we recommend the application of olive oil over the table top, a method which has been used for decades in Italy. This should be done sparingly at first rubbing the oil into the entire tabletop using a lint-free cloth until a smooth and smear free finish is achieved. This will be absorbed gradually by the granite and help to even any color differences.

All Mountain House granite tops have been done with antifouling sealant treatment which could prevent liquid, such as coca cola, tea, coffee or juice from staining the granite for hours. We suggest the sealant treatment should be re-applied every 3 years for shining granite tops and every 2 years for washed granite tops. This could be done simply with a lint-free cloth or brush. Mountain House offers stone sealant care kits.

*Note: All of Mountain House's stone products are very heavy and should be handled with care. All of the stone products should be lifted and placed in position rather than dragging to prevent any damage to your property and the stone product itself.
